Pinch pleat drapes are a great window treatment for various rooms and home designs. They come in a range of sizes, colors, and styles and the crimping at the top adds a lovely point of interest to them. It is important though when you are choosing what kind of window dressing you want, that you know how much work they will be to look after. If you have a super busy life you do not want to be adding extra work to that. Thankfully these drapes are quite easy to care for and clean, so here are the details.
Keeping them dust free
Some window treatments are not fun or easy to clean. Blinds are immensely time-consuming to dust, they need it often and then you need to clean them too now and then with soapy water. Many blinds collect a terrible amount of dust and then they no longer look as good as you had hoped for. Pinch pleat curtains are not like that I am sure you are glad to hear.
Once a week during your vacuum cleaning time just change the attachments on the vacuum for the furnishings/upholstery one. Then carefully vacuum the drapes with the extension and attachment in. Keep the setting on low if there is a lower setting to avoid problems with suction that is too powerful. Wipe down in vertical stripes moving along the curtain careful not to disturb the rods.
Cleaning your drapes
The vacuuming weekly will keep them dust free but then it is advisable every six months to take them down and clean them properly. Often there is moisture on windows which can attract mildew and mold which you want to protect the pinch pleat drapes from. In most cases, drapes should be hand washed or dry cleaned. If you do put them in the washing machine keep it on a low spin, gentle cycle and take care with the detergent you use. Avoid washing them too often though as it will make them start to fade and become worn looking.
